Legacy Giving - Your lasting investment in the future of Chickenshed
It is never an easy thing to talk of making a Will. But leaving a legacy, however great or small, can be a hugely positive step. Not only for the beneficiary of the legacy, but also for your family and friends who will have a tangible way to remember your life.

A legacy can also be a statement about the way we live – an affirmation of the values and convictions that we each hold dear.

As a supporter of Chickenshed, we would be honoured if you chose us as the beneficiary of any legacy you leave. By providing for us in your Will, you could help us to continue changing lives for years to come. It’s also a tax efficient way to leave money, and a legacy.

We recognise that making a Will is one of the most significant decisions to have to make. We treat any conversation about legacies with priority and in the strictest confidence, and are on hand to help inform and assist your decision in any way that we can. If you would like to speak to our Chief Executive in confidence about making a legacy to Chickenshed, then telephone David Balcombe on 020 8351 6161 ext 237.

Or, if you prefer, you can make a pledge or inform us of provision that you have already made by completing and returning our confidential contact form, available to download opposite. Please note, this form also contains information to assist with possible wording for your legacy.

Types of Legacy

There are a number of ways in which you can make a legacy gift to Chickenshed:

Pecuniary legacy
A pecuniary legacy is a fixed sum of money. You could elect that this is attributed to a particular element of our work in perpetuity. People often choose to index-link a pecuniary legacy to protect the sum against inflation.

Specific legacy
A legacy gift of property or other capital assets such as shares or works of art.

Reversionary legacy
A legacy left to someone for his or her lifetime, which then reverts to a third party. For example, a gift of property left to a person for their lifetime which upon that person’s passing is left to Chickenshed.

Codicil
A legacy made as an amendment to an existing Will.

Legacies and Taxation
Giving a legacy gift to an organisation with charitable status can also limit your estate’s exposure to Inheritance Tax. In simple terms, any gift to charity is free of tax – its value is deducted from the total assets of the estate liable for Inheritance Tax.

For official guidance on your position regarding Inheritance Tax you can contact HM Revenue and Customs on 0845 30 20 900 or at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cto/iht.htm
