On Friday 6th June, SmartJustice hosted a panel debate after our performance of "as the mother of a brown boy..." at Toynbee Studios. SmartJustice campaigns for more alternatives to custody and promotes initiatives that are effective in changing offenders' behaviour, stopping crime before it starts and tackling the causes of crime for adults and young people. They are based at the Prison Reform Trust in London.
The debate, based around the theme, "What do we do about young people and crime?" was chaired by Lucie Russell, Director of SmartJustice. Panellists included:
Reverend Nims Obunge- Chief Executive Officer, The Peace Alliance
Kevin Bakhurst- Controller BBC News Channel
Darren Raymond- Ex offender and Director of Intermission Actors Theatre Company
Paul Morrall - Director of Education and Outreach, Chickenshed
The evening was an incredible success and the debate was extremely stimulating. To listen to Lucie Russell, Director of SmartJustice, talk about the performance, the discussion and the issues surrounding young people and crime on Friction TV, please click here.
